Selmer & McNairy County — Small Town, Big Story
Selmer is the county seat of McNairy County — a working Tennessee town of diners, courthouse squares and Friday-night familiarity. It's the natural base for Shiloh and Pickwick, and worth an evening of its own.
The Walking Tall story
McNairy County is forever linked with Sheriff Buford Pusser, whose stand against organised crime became the Walking Tall films. The Buford Pusser Home & Museum in nearby Adamsville (about 15 minutes from Selmer) preserves his home, his patrol-car story and a slice of 1960s Tennessee law-and-order history — a must for film and history fans.
Around town
- Local food — Southern diners, barbecue and catfish around town and along the highways; ask at the Inn desk for the current local favourites.
- Courthouse square & downtown — a classic small-town stroll, antique and local shops.
- McNairy County Fair — the late-summer county fair is the region's big family week (check this year's dates on our What's On page).
- Highway crossroads — Selmer sits on US-64 and US-45, which is why road-trippers, touring riders and work crews have always stopped here.
